Dear Church Family,
May the peace and joy of Jesus be with you!
Recently I have been reflecting on the value of small groups in the life of the church and a few people have asked to join or lead a group.
I belong to a small group and am delighted in friendships that have been formed and supportive prayer.
I would like to share a few thoughts for your prayerful consideration:
1) THE VISION of a small group is summed up in Acts 2:42-47 telling how they shared their lives together:
“And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved”
2) SOME ESSENTIALS IN THE LIFE OF A SMALL GROUP:
Thankfulness: this leads to worship, intimacy and asking for more of His presence.
The Word: How it has encouraged us and challenged us to obedience.
Communion: Keeping the gospel as the centrepiece, as we remember his death.
Vulnerability: what are you struggling with what can we pray for?
Praying for breakthroughs and giving prophetic words to encourage each other.
Serving: Practically serving and supporting each other in generosity.
Praying for unbelievers and opportunities in building relationships with them.
As we share our life together in this way we will be pursuing and experiencing an ever-increasing manifestation of the presence of the Holy Spirit.
